Air traffic controllers the safe and orderly movement of aircraft along major air routes and around airfields by giving pilots instructions and recommendation as to height, speed and course. There are 3 sorts of air traffic controllers : area, approach and aerodrome controllers.Lots of controllers, around 80%, work at control centers as area controllers and are accountable for keeping aircraft flying the airways.
Approach controllers handle aircraft movement into and out of an airfield, while aerodrome controllers guide aircraft through landing and to the terminal. Over 2.2million freight and passenger flights take off or land in England, or pass through UK airspace, each year. Air traffic controllers often have a considerable number of aircraft under their control at any particular time.
